Being a mommy of two boys, and expecting my third child, I know about being stressed. The kids aren’t listening, they just tipped over your freshly folded pile of clothes, and your youngest just exploded out of his diaper. Sound familiar? For some reason, catastrophes always come in threes. It is a never-ending vicious cycle of chaos.
Sometimes within our day, we either have earned, or need a little time to unwind from it all. This is by far easier said then done, but it is possible. Nap time, or bedtime is a prime example of a perfect me time. Usually it’s spent cleaning up some form of a mess, but the messes will always be there. Spend this time on you.
If you are into taking baths, get that bubble bath flowing. Maybe you feel you have no time for a full tub. If that’s the case, just soak your feet in an Epsom salt bath. Epsom salt is good for drawing toxins, and has been know to have a soothing effect. You could also give yourself a quick sauna. Turn the shower on hot, close your bathroom door, and let the steam do its work. You can add aromatherapy into the mix by adding some natural oils of your liking. Scents like pine have been proven to reduce stress, and vanilla is a good mood booster.
If you are able to get a babysitter, or your significant other is willing to stay at home with the kids, get out of the house. We all need some alone time once in a while, and that rarely ever exists being a mom. I can barely use the bathroom without an audience, so a quick drive to the store or wherever alone is always welcome in my book.
We as moms, always picking things up, including our little munchkins, tend to hold a lot of stress in our neck, shoulders, and lower back. Get a massage. Professional tends to be the best, but your husband will do too. Get a yummy smelling lotion, and have your man rub you down. Not only does this feel good, but also it’s a nice bonding time for you and your spouse.
Do you like to read? Get yourself a book the next time you run out. Kick your feet up in a comfy chair with a cup of chamomile tea. Sink into another world, and enjoy.
All of these little stress relievers are simple ways to give you some me time. We need it. Women forget while taking care of everyone else, that without their health and wellbeing, they can’t do those things. Being a mother is a very important job. So mommies of the world, take care of you. Don’t forget we are important, and need to be pampered.
